Stay Safe This Halloween with These Safety Tips

Halloween is almost here! Which means it is the perfect time to make sure all your decorations are looking their best and all the finishing touches on your costume are done. More importantly, it is vital to make sure you know how to stay safe this holiday. Keep these simple Halloween safety tips in mind to ensure that everyone has a safe and fun Halloween.

  • If your child’s costume includes a play sword or knife, make sure that it is flexible and short so nobody is accidentally hurt.
  • When choosing the perfect costume for your child, make sure to choose one that fits properly so that they do not trip while out trick or treating. Also make sure that they wear comfortable shoes since they will be walking long distances.
  • Use reflective tape on your child’s costume so that they are more visible to passing drivers. Also have them carry a glow stick or flashlight so that they are able to see in the dark.
  • Always cross the street in a cross walk and be sure to follow all traffic laws. Teach your children to make eye contact with a driver to be sure that they are seen before crossing the street.
  • Do not allow children under the age of 12 to go trick or treating without the proper adult supervision. If you have older children who will be trick or treating with friends, make sure they stay in neighborhoods they are familiar with.
  • Before you allow your children to enjoy their candy, make sure to check each piece. Throw away any pieces that are open or look like they have been tampered with.
