Disaster Protection For Your Business

Business Insurance for Disasters

A disaster can strike at any time, which can mean serious damage to your business. While your existing insurance policies may provide some protection, it is important to invest in the right additional polices to provide the right amount of coverage. Keep these tips in mind to ensure that your business stays safe in case of any peril.

  • Insurance for the structure – a commercial property insurance policy is the best way to make sure that the structure of your property is protected in case of a disaster. As an added bonus, a commercial property insurance policy will also help to provide protection for any equipment that is damaged during the disaster. If you have any valuable equipment that you use at your business, you may want to talk with your agent to ensure that you have the right amount of coverage.
  • Insurance for commercial vehicles – your existing commercial vehicle insurance policy will provide some protection for your company cars during a disaster, as long as you have comprehensive coverage. Comprehensive coverage will provide protection for incidents that are not related to an accident, such as if the vehicles are damaged in a disaster.
  • Insurance for flooding – it is important to keep in mind that protection for a flood is not provided by any insurance policy, other than a specific flood insurance policy. If you are relying on your commercial property insurance to provide protection, you will be left paying for any repairs out of your own pocket.

April is Distracted Driving Month

Distracted Driving Statistics

Many people think of April as the month that brings showers, but it is actually a month of something much more important, distracted driving awareness. April has been recognized as Distracted Driving Awareness Month, which is a perfect time to make sure that you are safe on the road.

While most people automatically think of cell phones when they think of distracted driving, phones are not the only cause of being distracted behind the wheel. Some of the other major causes for distracted driving include drinking and eating, using a navigation system, and adjusting the radio. Cell phone use, especially texting, is still considered one of the most dangerous forms of distracted driving, since it combines visual, cognitive, and manual distractions.

Knowing the statistics behind the dangers of distracted driving can help to keep you safe on the road.

  • There were 3,328 people who were killed in accidents that were caused by distracted driving in 2012, and around 421,000 people injured in crashes.
  • Out of drivers who were involved in fatal car accidents, 10 percent of the drivers were distracted at the time of the crash.
  • Drivers who are under the age of 20 have the highest number of drivers who are distracted while behind the wheel.
  • At any point of the day in the United States, there are around 660,000 drivers who are using their cell phone or another type of electronic device.
  • The average time that your eyes are off the road while texting is five seconds. If you are driving 55 miles per hour, that is enough time to drive the length of a football field.

Having the right auto insurance policy is the best way to ensure that you stay safe while on the road. Contact the insurance professionals at Alliance Group in Fairport, New York for all of your auto insurance coverage needs.

4 Tips To Get Your Car Ready For Spring

Now that the weather is heating up for spring, it is the perfect time to start planning your next road trip. If your car has spent most of the frigid, winter months sitting in your garage, it is important that you take the right steps to prepare your car to hit the road. Keep these 4 spring car maintenance tips in mind to ensure that you do not get stranded on the road this season.

  1. Check your battery – the cold winter weather can wreak havoc on all of your cars starting components, including the battery. If your interior lights or headlights seem dimmer than usual, it may be a sign of a weak battery. Swap out your old battery for a new one to ensure that your car starts up every time you turn the key.
  2. Check your brakes – salt on the roads that was used to melt the snow can start to corrode your brakes, so make sure to get them checked by a professional. If your car tends to pull to one side when you brake, or you hear squeaking or grinding noises, it may be a sign of trouble.
  3. Check your tires – checking the tread on your tires is very simple. Take a penny, and place it in between the tire treads with Lincoln’s head facing down. If you can see Lincoln’s head, it is time to replace your tires. Also, make sure to check the tire pressure to ensure that all tires, including your spare, are properly inflated.
  4. Check your air conditioning – the warm weather means turning up your air when you get into your car. Turn your air completely up to make sure that it reaches the right temperature in a timely manner.

The new season is also the perfect time to look over your car insurance policy. Contact Alliance Group in Fairport, New York for all of your auto insurance coverage needs.
